With not much fanfare,Augusta National admitted two female members on Monday. Did you catch the proximity to the 92nd anniversary of the 19th amendment? Billy Payne, the Chairman of Augusta National, said that he would not have published the names save for the historical implications. Keep in mind Augusta National, legally, never had to admit a women member. As a private club they are entitled to allow admittance to whomever they want.
Is this news?
Yes, I know it's news, what I mean is, "Are women everywhere jumping up and down saying, "we did it" "we won"". Or are we saying screw them, "pay me what I'm worth".
Congratulations to Augusta National for stepping into the 21st century but is this where our head is at?
Hmmm . . .
I think they just needed to shore up their membership and now they look good in the process.
ReplyDeleteWould it surprise you 5 years from now and they were still "the only"?!!!
