Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Chinese Proverb
Catch and release is a practice within recreational fishing intended as a technique of conservation. After capture, the fish are unhooked and returned to the water before experiencing serious exhaustion or injury. Using barbless hooks, it is often possible to release the fish without removing it from the water (a slack line is frequently sufficient)
For this blog I want to know what “you” think. The fish I want to catch here are”your” thoughts. Most people get hung up on their thoughts or the thoughts of others; don’t. Here is where release comes in. Spend some time mulling over what is said in this blog but then “release” your thought so someone else can grow and prosper.
Please do your best not to offend, bait, or purposely irritate. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts; there may be more like minded people out there than you had anticipated. Discourse is encouraged, deliberate stupidity is not!

First, the defense attorney in me (NO DIRK, i'm not dating him anymore) made me google the charges of "hooliganism" of what the girls were charged with and i got this:
ReplyDeleteIn the Soviet Union, hooliganism (хулиганство) was made a criminal offence under the penal codes of the Soviet republics. Article 213 of the penal code defined hooliganism as "any deliberate behaviour which violates public order and expresses explicit disrespect towards the society." This law was often used by Soviet authorities against political dissidents. Hooliganism is still covered under the criminal and administrative codes of Russia, and is applicable to persons at least 16 years old. Hooliganism is graded into Malicious hooliganism (злостное хулиганство), hooliganism (хулиганство), and Petty hooliganism (мелкое хулиганство). Petty hooliganism is "subject to administrative proceedings" (roughly equivalent to application of the civil law) and classified as roughly equivalent to an infraction. It is mostly applied to minor street disorders and fighting by urban youth. Malicious hooliganism is defined as being committed "with extraordinary cynicism, with resistance to law enforcement, with usage of arms or attempt thereof, or committed by a recidivist."
Second, i thought of where this took place and thirdly i wake every morning and no matter how bad my Connecticut Post headlines read i am thankful as a woman i can voice or write my opinions and sign my name and work towards change. Perhaps these girls in jail for 2 years will bring light to others? I sit here shaking my head wondering just who were the idiots in the courtroom that yelled "shame" and "disgrace"? These girls have MY respect, well, kinda, not sure i would have gone about it the way they did but geez, it got me to look up the definition of "hooligan" and i will follow what these young women go on to do with the rest of their lives.. i don't think we are done hearing from them ... ya think? FYI: i have to report to federal grand jury in New Haven on Wednesday morning ...
It would be nice to actually see the ripples reach shore in the future. Not sure that change as we envision it is what we will actually see.
ReplyDeleteIs the fact that you and I are different lend support to the disparity of treatment between us?
